Universal surface gauges are designed for the discriminating engineer.
The scriber can be set at any position on the spindle, which in tum can be set at any angle; final
adjustment is obtained by pivoting the spring-loaded spindle support bracket by means of the
fine-pitch adjusting screw.

On the two larger sizes a 6.35 mm (1/4in) hole in the spring-loaded scriber holder allows for a dial
indicator to be attached. The base is made form case-hardened steel, ground on the bottom and
at one end, and with machined vee-groove in the bottom for use on cylindrical work.
